It's a dish that's better suited to be made in large quantities rather than in small quantities, such as for one person. Therefore, I would like to introduce what you should know when you have more than you can eat.

Why not save leftover okonomiyaki as a side dish that you can eat right away by freezing it?

Okonomiyaki is also sold as a frozen food, so if you can freeze it at home, you can save money.

Advantages of freezing okonomiyaki

Okonomiyaki

You can store the okonomiyaki that you couldn't finish cooking for a long time.

Storing it at room temperature for even one hour is dangerous, except during cool seasons. (Depends on whether there are any undercooked parts or perishable ingredients, etc.)

You can also store it in the refrigerator for about 2 days after transferring the plate and wrapping it tightly.

Basically, okonomiyaki is a perishable item, so it is not suitable for storage. However, by freezing it, you can extend its shelf life to about one month.

Can be used as a cabbage consumption menu

Cabbage is a vegetable that is often sold as a bargain item at supermarkets. It may also be cheaper during peak season, or available in large quantities as a gift.

In such a case, okonomiyaki is an excellent cabbage consumption menu.

It also comes in handy when you want your child to eat plenty of vegetables. Recommended for snacks and baby food.

How to freeze okonomiyaki

1) Thoroughly remove the heat from the cooked okonomiyaki (about 20 to 30 minutes).
2) Wrap each cooled okonomiyaki in plastic wrap.
3) In order to cool down and freeze 2) as quickly as possible, place it on a metal (such as aluminum) tray and place it in the freezer. Metal is a good conductor of heat, so it cools down quickly. By freezing food quickly, you can preserve the flavor of the food.

4) Once 3) is frozen, seal it in a ziplock bag to prevent it from coming into contact with oxygen and store it in the freezer. This is to prevent food from deteriorating due to exposure to oxygen.

Frozen okonomiyaki seeds

We do not recommend freezing okonomiyaki seeds.

This is because it is difficult to bake properly when thawed. Can be stored refrigerated. (Before mixing the ingredients, cover the seeds tightly with plastic wrap for about 2 days)

However, since it contains eggs, it is easily damaged before it is heated, so we recommend heating it and then freezing it, rather than freezing it whole.

How to defrost okonomiyaki

1) Place it on a plate wrapped in plastic wrap and heat it in the microwave.
2) After heating, check that the heat has passed through to the center.
3) Complete with sauce, green seaweed, and toppings such as pickled ginger if you like.

You can also make the surface crispy by baking the part heated in the microwave in a toaster or frying pan. Please try it as you like.
When frying in a frying pan, heat over medium to low heat instead of high heat to make it delicious and moist.

Storage period of okonomiyaki

The storage period is approximately 1 month.
When stored, it inevitably comes into contact with oxygen in the refrigerator, so it deteriorates over time.

If it gets frosty, it will become soggy after thawing, so we recommend serving it early.

Things to be careful of
・If the squid is still large, it may explode when heated in the microwave.
If you use squid, make sure to score it or cut it into small pieces.

・Okonomiyaki can easily go bad if there are raw ingredients or raw parts.
When eating, be sure to check the smell and taste (no sourness) to make sure they are not damaged.
If you have any concerns, you should stop eating it.
