[Can it be frozen? ] Introducing how to freeze kamaboko and how to remake it

Do you have too much kamaboko from New Year's food?

Kamaboko will last for about two weeks if left in a sealed package, but if you open it, it will deteriorate rapidly.

If you store leftover kamaboko in the refrigerator, it will last approximately one week.

If you want it to last longer than that, we recommend freezing it.

This time, I will introduce how to freeze kamaboko and how to thaw it.

Can kamaboko be frozen?

New Year's decorations and ozoni

I haven't heard much about frozen kamaboko. I don't think many people have had the experience of freezing kamaboko at home.

Can kamaboko be frozen?

To start with the conclusion, it's "I can't do it, but I can do it." It's kind of confusing.

When you freeze kamaboko, it ends up with an "su" in it.

This "su" refers to a condition in which holes like stomata open up unevenly. There is nothing we can do about this.

Even if this "su" is formed, it can be eaten normally, and since it is a hole, the flavor will soak in easily.

Therefore, it is a good idea to use it in dishes where you want to infuse the flavor, such as stews and soups. It is also suitable for dishes that do not spoil the appearance even if there is a ``su''.

How to refrigerate kamaboko

Kamaboko wrapped in plastic wrap and placed in a ziplock bag

Let's take a look at how to store kamaboko in the refrigerator.

Kamaboko used for osechi tends to dry out if it's still heavy, so it won't taste as good.

Remove from the bag, wrap in plastic wrap, and store in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator.

You can also store it in a Tupperware container and refrigerate it.

Let's take a look at how to freeze kamaboko.

This is very simple.

Cut the kamaboko into small pieces, wrap it in plastic wrap, put it in a freezer bag, and put it in the freezer.

The thinner you cut the kamaboko, the more difficult it will be for the ``su'' to fit in, but if you don't mind the ``su'' in it, you can cut it however you like.

How to defrost kamaboko

Let's take a look at how to thaw frozen kamaboko.

The basic defrosting method is refrigeration. Transfer it to the refrigerator and wait for it to thaw.

If you are busy, you can also defrost it by heating it in the microwave. Also, depending on the dish, you can use it frozen.

Kamaboko storage period

Let's take a look at the frozen storage period of kamaboko.

The storage period is approximately one month.

If you don't care about the taste, you can store it for several months, but it will deteriorate, so we recommend eating it up as soon as possible.
